“Kuranoyado Miraijuku”(“A longing for the future”)is after the code for flowers of alstroemeria, said Mrs. Yukiko Ichinoha who was selected as one of the hundred best “mothers” of “Nouringyoka Minshuku”.
Once a middle-aged man told her “I want to stay at this storehouse’s room and relax”, so then she started the Green Tourism business of Minshuku. I will never forget my experiences there.
When I visited Miraijuku in June this year, old farmer’s house with two storehouses were surrounded by beautiful blooming flowers.
These two storehouses are named “Yumeyurisou” and “Yamaboushi”, and were built about 130 years ago.
The inside of the main house was very wide and had a fireplace at the center with a couple of beautiful rooms and a kitchen.
It also had a surprisingly elegant tearoom near the rose garden. These impressed me.
A lunch at the fireplace was another impressive experience.
I enjoyed a handmade dish made with fresh locally produced vegetables and most impressive dish was “Agedoufu no nattozume” which was fried tofu with natto (fermented soybeans) inside. It was a delicious meal which reflects local innovation.
Mrs. Ichinoha grows alstroemeria. “We have a successor for agriculture but not Green Tourism.” she said. Mrs. Ichinoha plays an important role as a leader of the community realizing the diversification of farming which is near the top agenda regarding agricultural policy.
Her husband is skilled at making good soil and his own organic manure is called “Akira” which is named after him. And it was the secret why the roses were so beautiful.
But what impressed me most was the history of her life which led to Green Tourism. Why don’t you visit her house and share her story?
